Bank account

It is a very easy process to open your bank account from overseas and takes 5-10 minutes. Of course, you don’t have to do it but you can also wait for it till you are in Australia.

Tax File Number (TFN)

You don’t have to do this before you jump on the plane but you can if you want to. It’s a very easy online form which only takes a couple of minutes.

Transfer some money to get started

If you have opened your bank account already then you can transfer some money to Australia already. You can, of course, do this via the bank but using a money transfer service might save you quite a bit of money. There are various options such as:

457 Healthcare insurance

If you’re from countries such as the UK, Belgium, Finland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zeland, Norway, Ireland, Slovenia or Sweden you will be on a reciprocal Medicare card. If you are not from one of those countries then you will need a 457 health insurance. There are various options such as:

The good news is that you won’t have to pay the Medicare levy or can claim it back at the end of the financial year. You can find some further information on the website of the ATO.
